After sixteen years of Catholic school, fending off his nun-aunt’s petitions to become a priest, and undergoing testicular surgery to improve an apparently ailing sperm count, Joe always wanted to be a dad. And then he fell for a girl who knew she never wanted kids. un-a-parent is a painfully honest, autobiographical solo show about falling for your opposite.


Joe Minchik (Writer/performer)

Joe Minchik is a New York City based actor, writer, and producer creating content for theater, film, TV, and the web. As an actor, Joe can be seen in the award-winning comedy web series, Third Wheel, as Geoff, an uptight fiancé. His theatrical short, With This Ring, was selected as a finalist in the 2015 New York New Works Festival, and is currently being adapted to film. He has long-form TV pilot also in development.

Joe's comedic background includes study at Second City Chicago, Upright Citizens Brigade, the Peoples Improv Theater, and house team performances at the former Queens Secret Improv Club. While receiving a BA in Theater/Broadcasting from Seton Hall University, Joe began his professional career interning for the head writers of The Late Show with David Letterman.

In addition to his narrative work, Joe writes and produces brand creative content for networks including IFC and TV Land. He is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.



Betsy True (director)

Betsy True has had a diverse career in the theatre as an award-winning director, producer, writer and actor that has spanned 35 years. She has directed numerous plays in NYC, NJ and LA, many of which were new works. She has directed pieces that have been performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, HERE Arts Center, Alliance Rep, Dreamcatcher Rep, Manhattan Rep, Downtown Urban Arts Festival, Hudson Guild, The Secret Theatre, The Chain Theatre, The Midtown International Theatre Festival, Strawberry Festival, The Whitefire Theatre, The Barrow Group, Fresh Produce’d LA and The Bendheim Performing Arts Center, among others.   She has performed on Broadway, off-Broadway, in National Tours and in numerous regional theatres across the country. Her plays and songs have been performed in theaters in NYC and LA. She serves as the Artistic Director of the Youth Artistic Summer Intensive at New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) as well as the Senior Director of Artistic Faculty and Curriculum Development at NJPAC. Her passion is developing new works with kids of all ages and sharing the joy of creating with those who feel they don’t have a voice in the world.
